Privacy Policy

InspectorCrib is a product of Wocket LLC ("Wocket", "we"), the operating entity responsible for this service.

Effective March 1, 2026 · Last updated March 2026

The Short Version

InspectorCrib collects very little data about you. We don't have user accounts. We don't ask for your name, email, or any personal information. We don't sell data. We don't use tracking cookies.

What We Collect

Analytics: We use Vercel Analytics to understand how people use InspectorCrib — things like page views, general traffic patterns, and performance metrics. This data is aggregated and does not identify individual users.

Server logs: Like most web services, our servers automatically log basic request information (IP addresses, timestamps, URLs requested). These logs are used for debugging and security, and are not used for tracking or marketing.

Search queries: When you search for a building address, that query is sent to our backend to retrieve data. We may log queries for performance monitoring but do not associate them with individual users.

AI Building Summaries

InspectorCrib uses AI to write plain-English summaries of a building's public records. To produce one, that building's records — the same public data shown on the page — are sent to Anthropic for processing.

Nothing about you is sent with it. The request carries building records only: no name, email address, account identifier, or IP address. Summaries are generated per building rather than per person, and everyone viewing a building sees the same summary.

Processing is subject to Anthropic's privacy policy. We recommend reviewing it if you have concerns about how data is handled on their end.

InspectorCrib does not currently offer an AI chat feature. If one is added, this policy will describe it before it launches.

Tip: Avoid sharing personal or sensitive information in the chat. It's designed for questions about buildings, not for personal matters.

Cookies

InspectorCrib uses only essential cookies required for the site to function (such as theme preferences). We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party marketing cookies.

Building Data Is Public Record

The building data displayed on InspectorCrib — violations, complaints, permits, ownership records, and so on — is sourced from publicly available NYC government datasets. This information is already public record. We are presenting it in a more accessible format, not creating or collecting private data about buildings or their occupants.

No Data Selling

We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. Period.

Third-Party Services

InspectorCrib relies on a few third-party services to operate:

  • Vercel — hosts the frontend and provides analytics
  • Railway — hosts the backend API
  • Anthropic — generates building summaries from public records
  • NYC Open Data (Socrata) — source of building data
  • Sentry — receives automatic error reports when something on the site breaks. These reports are scrubbed before they are sent: they carry no email address, no password, no payment detail and no IP address.

Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them if you have specific concerns.

Children's Privacy

InspectorCrib is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since we don't collect personal information from anyone (no accounts, no sign-ups), this is largely a non-issue — but we want to be clear about it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the date at the top. Since we don't have user accounts or email addresses, we can't notify you directly — so we encourage you to check back occasionally.
